One year after being lucky enough to take the stage at a sold out Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia, I found myself on the other end of things last week. I traveled down to Nashville to catch one of the best voices in the rock scene. Dorothy (currently on tour with Spirit Animal) played to a packed house at the Cannery Ballroom. Captivating the room from the get go, the band put on one heck of a show. Opening the show with her hit, Naked Eye, the ballroom lit up with noise. Though having a debut album called “Rock is Dead”, Rock was in fact far from dead on this night. While the band was rocking behind Dorothy Martin, her voice, so strong and bluesy you could hear her voice piercing through the waves to be the one thing that could really stand out. She pleased the crowd thoroughly by playing all the hits from, Raising Hell to Gun In My Hand along with new music… the crowd had continuous energy singing the words back to the stage. Having hints of a modern Janis Joplin, this is an artist that people need to STOP sleeping on.
